In an interesting article published on CNN today, a neuroscientist asks the question, "Are Humans hard-wired for faith?" This neuroscientist, Dr. Andrew Newberg, has been studing what the brain does during different spiritual meditations. He has studied Franciscan nuns, Tibetan Buddhists, and Pentecostal Christians speaking in tongues.
[@more@]The results:
"Newberg suggests that these brain scans may provide proof that our brains are built to believe in God. He says there may be universal features of the human mind that actually make it easier for us to believe in a higher power."
The crazy part is that both devout believers and atheists are claiming that the brain scans prove their point of view. The believers say "only make sense that God would give humans a way to communicate with the Almighty through their brain functions."
Atheists, on the other hand, say that the "brain scans as proof that the emotions attached to religion and God are nothing more than manifestations of brain circuitry." (Original Post)
In ending the article, the reportor makes an interesting statement: "Today, scientific images can track our thoughts on God, but it would take a long leap of faith to identify why we think of God in the first place."
You know – I think he is correct. I don't think you can find God through science. Yes – you can see His handywork – but you won't find God by looking through a telescope. We find God by talking to Him and seeking His face…. I guess it is more of a philosophy thing then a scientific thing…. [dude, this is hard to type....find the right words and alll...]
